A very good topic was brought up..
What would possibly become of Malfoy and Hermione being together? There certainly are no signs that they like each other!! So, why would people consider this?
NOTE: The name of this topic was changed because of a topic change, and since I don't get onto people about off-topicness as much as maybe I should, I simply alter the topic.

It's that whole the-big-bad-evil-Slytherin-falling-in-love-with-the-goody-two-shoes-Gryffindor. The whole making-him-a-better-person-thing; making-him-change-his-views. It happened in Pride and Prejudice, and I'm sure it's happened in other novels as well.
Draco's pride (of being Pureblooded) and prejudice (against Mudbloods, Gryffindors, etc.) runs rather deep; he grew up with those views, and things like that are hard to change. The fact that Hermione can change them is what I always enjoyed. It's a (perhaps false) testament that "love can conquer all."

Well, I think that Hermione has been hitting on Draco *drum roll* But seriously, it's like the song goes, people are strange. Also, I'd just like to note Draco/Ginny..... because I'm such a rule breaker

I will cut you Doofus, I know where you sleep!!! *looks around the corner*
Anyway, I think it's ridiculous for people to like this ship.but that's just me. Who supports D/Hr here, and would like to explain to me what's so special about this ship?

Well, you see this ship is great because people hate it.... people like me include this in our stories to upset people like you.... that's just our style.
And it should be your style too, the way I see it, there's a little Death Eater inside all of us, embrace it!

I don't care if Hermione herself became a Death Eater, there is NO way ther DHr would EVER be a good ship! I don't see how people can like it, I don't see how it's at all pleasing to read! And just like Amy here, I WILL CUT YOU.

Well, I used to be a big fan, now I'm not.
Why I liked it was the whole Opposites Attract thing. And I was also really new to Fanfiction, and it was the first ship I read, so I stuck with it...

I don't get why everybody's into that whole opposites attract thing..that's the only support D/Hr stands on, and it's not very good. It angers me! lol

For me, it's not the opposites attract thing. It's getting him to figure out that just because he's purebloooded, doesn't mean he's any better. It's a matter of societal principals, and how stupid they are. Both fractions of maigc folk have their problems; no one is better than anyone else simply because they come from a long line of witches and wizards.
It's matter of savagely delfating Malfoy's ego, as well. I don't care if he ends up with her; in fact, it's probably best that they don't have a happy ending. Just as long as he learns his lesson, and the only person who can really teach him would be Hermione.
Okay, I just re-read this thing and realized that I really don't have much of a life . . . . Oh well.

Man, you guys are starting to sound like english teacher.... and I can't decide whether I'm either really inspired that you guys are thinking about the inner-workings of the story or scared because for the most part English tteachers read too much into stuff and often come off as creepy for it.

I actually don't read too far into stuff, generally. But when you're taking AP Lit. you kinda have to start thinking about that stuff.
Which is why, I would compare Draco and Hermione to Elizabeth and Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. After I've read that book five times, I couldn't help but notice the similarities.

Justin, our SISTER is an english teacher. And she's not cooky. lol! Naw I just don't see why Hermione is supposedly the only one who can teach Draco a couple things about scruples. That's queer if ya ask me, cause it could be anyone. Why Hermione? She's the most obvious choice, that's why. People run to her first cause she's a main character and they don't wana spend time considering any other characters that might be able to do the same job. Cuase Most D/Hr's are poorly put together, and even the good ones fail to convince. I dont' see the hype

Then I suppose this thread is kinda pointless, uh?
And I don't think it's because she's a main character. Or at least not directly. If you think about the characters, (main and minor) she's the only he ever calls a mudblood directly--directly because we don't know any other (female) students who are muggle-born (or at least I can't think of any; if I'm wrong then just let me know). She's the only he ever shows prejudice against (because of her blood). Yes, she is an obvious choice, but only because there really isn't another canon character to choose from.

I think part of it is that the tension between them is just so darn obvious. Yes, I know its Hate. 100% hate, but its not difficult to turn the tables and make it like something else.
And I know you said not to mention Ginny but... couldn't the same question be asked about Draco/Ginny?

Well, as long as we're breaking my rule.. D/G is kind of the same as D/Hr, but there's major differences between the two girls, especially after seeing how they interact in book 6, that turns the situation around. In earlier books everyone thought Ginny was just Ron's little sister who was timid and shy and didn't know how to act around boys (ahem, Harry) But in book 6(and even in earlier books leading up)...We see Ginny coming out of her shell, getting a feel of dating, becoming more comfortable with everyone around her. She becomes bolder, prettier, more popular. She's pretty much everything Hermione isn't. Except brains, I don't know how smart Ginny really is, but it's assumed by most that she's pretty smart. Not Hermione smart, just smart. Which shouldn't very well matter anyway, cause I don't think Draco considers a girl's academic level when he's picking out prospects. And academics is pretty much all Hermione's got working for her. I know she slapped him in book 3 (a punch in the movie ) but she only gets bold streaks like that sometimes...hence the reason they surprise us so much and stick in our memory. Nobody seems to notice that Ginny is like that 24/7. She tells off several people in book 6, including Dean, Hermione, and Ron. Definately Draco material.
