Monica you're pretty much wrong on some points and I'll point them out.
for one, I am open to pretty much ALL ships, and this one ship, D/Hr, being the only one I truely detest and disagree with. Hence the reason I have put this board up. Because I want to know what others actually see in it. Cause I sure as hell see nothing.
And I can say G/D is more believable, because it is. Hermione and Ginny are very different little ladies, if they were alike, they would just be one character. Got me? ok, well and Ginny has become pretty much a main character with the release of book 6. We've at least seen something about her that is very different from Hermione. And i've said this before, but I think I'll just have to say it again, along with re-name this thread
ok, so we know this much about Hermione:
She is a follower of rules.
She does break rules, and gets cool sometimes--but not often.
She's ugly--bushy mouse-brown hair, anyone?
She's a nerd--she may be smart, but she's only smart because of how nerdy she really truely is.
She cares more about books than boys and beauty.
She's a wimp. She cries about a LOT.
She's mature, yes. But also a drama queen.
She likes Ron. Duh.
Ok so since we know all of this, what makes you think she's got something that'll catch Draco's eye? Monica is right--this isn't opposites! It's beyond that.
And I can see why a lot of people warp Hermione & Draco's character in their fics (See monicas examples) because it's pretty much the ONLY way you're going to get Hermione and Draco together.
Now I'm not saying that ALL D/Hr stories are this way, some probably are pretty good. but only SOME. Not most, not all. Just some. Just a few. When I was a D/Hr shipper (and I used to be), I would have to scour the FF.Net pages for about a half hour before I could find a plot I could actually get into.

Ok so on to Draco/Ginny. Why do I like it so much over Draco/Hermione? What's the damn difference?
Well, ok, here's waht we know about Ginny, that is the opposite of Hermione:
She's got an attitude from hell. She'll tell off anyone (even her own boyfriend, Dean)
She dates people from other houses (michael corner). She DATES all together. She's not shy about boys, though she is discreet about her snoggings.
Ginny loves quidditch. this tells you that she's more sporty than nerdy.
She's pretty.
She's more popular than Hermione. (how can you be pretty, on the quidditch team, and Harry Potter's girlfriend without being popular?)
She's averagely smart at least. Meaning that she's not an idiot, but she isn't exactly miss know-it-all like hermione. Idk how smart she REALLY is, but we'll find out maybe.
So knowing this, doesn't Ginny seem like a better candidate for Draco? remember, we're talking fanon here, but how can you say Ginny's NOT more believeable? of course she is! So get to eplodin', Monica, cause I've done gone and said it.
Now, I know both Ginny and Hermione have cons about them that restrict this ship a bit, and things we all work around when writing fanfiction. But since y'all might think that I think that Ginny/Draco has no cons, I'll be more than happy to point them out for you, because I will never say they're a perfect ship. On the contrary, when I write this ship, there is usually more fighting and bickering than snogging. Trust me.
ok, so here's Ginny's cons.
She's a blood-traitor Weasley. This is almost as bad as Mudblood or Half-blood, but not quite.
She's bff's with the golden trio, and dated Harry.
She's in Gryffindor. Enough said.
She's a year younger (idk, people like to point this out. OMG! she's younger! Since when have older boys dated younger girls, anyway?)
Well those are what splits up Ginny and Draco, but they're easily worked around. Plus, Hermione's cons pretty much cross out some of Ginny's. Things like:
Mudblood
Gryffindor
Bff's with golden trio. Her and Ron also have kind of a "thing."
So the only thing going for Hermione taht Ginny's got against her is the age. People like to put Draco and Hermione in the positions of head boy/girl and get them together that way. I say it's hogwash. It's a cliche that's been so over-used that I get sick of reading about it.
I also hate when they move Ginny up a level in her classes because she's soooo smart. It's gay as hell and I hate that cliche.
I like to read stories where it's a challenge to find love in the other person. Without having to change their academics, looks, or personality.
And I have found that I don't have to search for page after page to find this ship. Almost every one I read is a total hit, and that's why I ship D/G.
But this does NOT Mean I hate all ships! I am open minded about most of all of them. D/Hr is the only one, let me repeat, the ONLY one, that gets under my skin.
