Peter Pettigrew used to be a Marauder. We all know that. So why would he turn Death Eater, when his friends weren't even close to that path? Did he do what he did because his "friends" neglected him, or was he evil all along? NOTE: Feel free to Powerfully debate your point, meaning you don't have to be exactly NICE! Get your point across!

what can we say, being a death eater has great benefits (especially the dental).
And what's this about getting mean? I don't need permission, I give it to myself.

Pettigrew wanted someone bigger to protect him. That's all there is to it. He was only with the marauders in the first place because they could take care of him- because he was traipsing around with a group of popular boys, and no one would dare to pick on him that way. But once he was away from Hogwarts, that didn't matter anymore. He didn't want to die, and Voldemort offered him protection, even if it came at great cost. Pettigrew took it- maybe he did think he "had no choice." Maybe that's why he never went back until he was forced out of hiding... until he couldn't do it anymore. And then he ran back to Voldemort because he knew that if he didn't, he had no where else to go.

But don't forget the benefits, you don't grow incisors like those without the help of the dental plan (it's a special package, I told Petter it'd look funny and he went right ahead and did it anyways..... who was right ) Also, the life insurance (no Avada Kadavra from my main man) policy is unbeatable.... (except by loving scar insurance, curse them!) Not to mention that Petter is a rat.... seriously, the marauders should have expected as much from him. When you're friend is a werewolf and the only animal that pops into your head to turn into to keep him in check is a rat I'm sorry but you're retarded. It was unloyal to the animal theme and let's face it, rats are fend for themselves animals... not great protectors or defenders or anything. I'd also like to mention, that James was far closer to sirius than any of the other marauders and sirius had a wicked cool flying motorcycle for quick get-aways and he chooses to confide the life of his son to a friggin' rat!? WTF? Even Lupin would have been a far better choice. But for some reason James trusted Peter, I mean great flaming lakes, his first name is also that of a rooster (if yannow wut I'm sheyin'. What did he expect? They're all retarded.

Well you can see clearly in the pensieve that Peter basically adored the Marauders, what with his gawking and clapping when James would toy with the Snitch and watch on hungrily as they tortured Snape..
I think they were kind of a bad influence on him. I'm not sticking up for Peter, I hate his guts, and he puts a bad name on rats all over the globe...but..
I think the Marauders had an influence on his choice to become a Death Eater. Something HAD to happen to where they pissed him off terribly and made him thirst for revenge. Revenge that was handed to him by Voldemort.

I don't believe it was being a marauder so much as liking being accepted into something that was important to him. It was important to him back in the day to be not only with something but one with it, and he didn't quite get that with the marauders, he was always the low fella on the pole, the tag-along.... but with us death eaters he gets the same benefits as everyone else and he's one of us, because all the clothes match ;D

Peter turning evil, you cannot blame on his friends. That was his choice. That was his thirst for power.

A thirst for power because his friends made him feel powerless perhaps?

Definitely not. I think he was like that even before Hogwarts. I don't know why you hate the maruaders so much Amy...

I don't hate them, if I hated the marauders I wouldn't have created an entire forum based on them, would I?
I just think that maybe it was them mkaing Peter feel inferior that CONTRIBUTED to his decision to become what he became.

See, I completely agree Amy. I hate Peter Pettigrew with a passion and I think he should be offed come next book. And painfully too. However, I do think some of his decision to join the Death Eaters was based on the Marauders. They always treated him like the outcast of the group. Always. He probably felt useless and such. When he FINALLY felt like he could be powerful, be a part of something, do something huge, he took that leap. Just because he'd never felt it before. He'd never been in a situation where people depended on HIM and he liked that. So it's obvious he wanted more.
I just think that if James, Remus, and Sirius had been better friends to him, he wouldn't have turned out the same way.

I hope he is offed in the next book! He has lived far too long and made too many people suffer. Also, Peter is NOT a maurader in my book, you can find him under "M" still. M for moron.

:snort: since when did Peters joining us death eaters become HIS choice? The idiot is a COWARD! You know the only reason he joined was because Voldemort told him to. He's not brave (or smart) enough to make a decision like that. He's a rat, in animal and human form and, while most rats are cool, that is a universal symbol for a creature not to be trusted.
so all this mess about it being someones falt i think is ridiculous. He joined the dark side because he was told to.
